2 Weeks With Road Renegades RUST Update; Pedaling Through the Wasteland

With Rust devs, Facepunch, celebrating their 15th birthday with a 50% sale on Rust, the DLC, and their other games, it’s been a storied July. Not to mention the ‘Road Renegades’ update earlier in the month, rounding up a solid showing for the dev team.

This makes the Road Renegades update a perfect time to get back into Rust if you’ve been away for a while. So we’re checking out the Road Renegades update now that it’s been a couple of weeks since its release to gauge whether it’s really worth enjoying (suffering) the game.

With that in mind, if you are planning to get into Rust and don’t want to feel overwhelmed starting anew, you can check out U7BUY to find a new Rust Steam account with the skins, weapons, and anything you’re looking for!

Rust Road Renegades Release Date

If you’ve been out of the ‘Rust’ loop, then you might’ve missed that the game’s now updated with the ‘Road Renegades’ content. This adds in a bunch of new gameplay elements, changes, and fixes for you to dive into.

The Road Renegades update was originally released on July 5th, 2024.

That said if you’re looking for specific limited skins for outfits, weapons, or more, check out U7BUY to find Rust skins for sale!

The Road Renegades Experience

RUST Bikes Are an Extremely Welcome Addition

The most important addition to Rust with the Road Renegades update is the introduction of bikes. This includes both motorcycles and RUST bikes, each having two different variations to choose from.

You have a dirtbike, a motorbike with a sidecar attachment, a pedal bike, and a three-wheeled bike with a passenger seat. While we’ve noticed plenty of players zooming past us on RUST bikes already (and most notably off cliffs & into trees), the pedal RUST bikes are our favorite of the bunch.

You don’t need to use your fuel reserves and while it does drain your food and water meter and they’re way easier to find and maintain. Plus, you can pull off some pretty sick BMX tricks on the RUST bikes which has been our most favorite aspect of the Road Renegades RUST update.

Pedaling through the wasteland is pretty fun, lest you find yourself in a deadly chase by other players. Yeah, that part isn’t great.

Handcuffs & Prisoner Hood Debacle

The next major addition with the Road Renegades RUST update are the new items; Handcuffs & Prisoner Hood. So far these two are quite a bit of debate because from our experience, while it does open a lot of doors for ‘realistic’ gameplay for an apocalyptic wasteland, it’s easy to see how they might be misused.

For one, we haven’t had too many cases of aggressive players hounding and tying us up, but it has happened a few times. While there are mechanics in place to escape from captivity, we’re hoping players don’t go overboard and ruin other people’s experiences by bullying them in-game.

The Prisoner Hood in particular is a bit annoying since it cuts off what you can see on screen and disables your mini-map which is uber frustrating after you’ve tried evading and taking down your pursuers for a while already.

The Illusive Traveling Vendor

Lastly, we have the Traveling Vendor, a new in-game event where players can come across random spawns in maps with ring roads. The mechanic is intriguing since if you’re lucky, you can get a discount on a weapon or some materials but otherwise wasn’t too exciting for us.

Though tracking down the Vendor is fun enough to do since it’s like a ‘gacha’ pull where you might get lucky and find a crazy deal. It gives you another thing to do in the game which is always welcome.

Final Thoughts

Overall, the Road Renegades RUST update is well worth checking out especially if you’ve been away from Rust for some time now. There’s a good chance you’ll be catching up on past RUST updates with new events, but cruising around on a bike is pretty gnarly by itself.

And if you managed to catch the 50% off sale, it’s a no-brainer because as much as we hate it, we just can’t stop loving this kooky & often times infuriating game.
